He studied in Matsuyama and Tokyo. He became a famous modern Haiku reformer. His leadership gathered a great number of friends and followers, and made the "Shiki Mountains". Shiki was very much interested in baseball which was brought from the United States. He was a good player of baseball and taught his friend and followers how to play it. He also enjoyed a baseball game with them all. Shiki was a great reformer of modern Haiku and a great pioneer in the history of Japanese baseball.
